Hello, December!

There is a stripping back, a certain falling off,
a darkness to the light, an awareness to the love;
a slight holding in where there was gush and rush;
a sharpness to the winds, and a sparseness to the words,
a clicking into place where enough can be enough
and not an iota more, a distaste for too much;
a tying up of leaves, an end to risk-averse,
a paring of the sky. A yearning for the nub.

  1. Hi Nila - it's good to see December here ... but we are so warm and I'm quite glad - but we do need the cold. We're not quite at the nub yet ... I yearn for Spring though ... cheers Hilary

  2. My favorite snippet: "a paring of the sky." Perfect definition of winter.

    1. Sometimes it can be a layering too :) but paring sounds more poetic? no just what feels right..

    1. Why the year ends at this month I can't fathom, the New Year should ideally start at spring..

  6. At times I find out
    all that pushing, shoving and
    fighting I'm doing all three
    and yet at this time of year I
    too feel peace come over me

    You are so good at choosing the right words.
