Overthink

Time is just a heartbeat and crumbling bread,
stop the clocks in their tracks inside your head.
It thins out like coffee smoke as it sits,
there’ll be time if you don’t think too much of it.
Stop the ticks and tocks, turn the lock on countdowns,
shut them up and pack them off out of town
beyond red lines and deadlines and remits -
there’ll be time if you don’t think too much on it.
Time is the weight of a feather and of lead
and pink champagne! - don’t let it get to your head,
it’s a busy port, quiet crossroads, and transit,
there’s enough, just don’t think too much on it.

This is sort of like a mongrel that can't let go its own tail, I can tell you I'd be better off working out some sort of a draft for my A-Z posts instead of writing poetry on time management. But...things happen when they happen...what can one do?

HAH! Something in the ether, Nila... I was looking at lists and then having a thought about listing the lists then realising I'd lost an hour or two to them! YAM xx

    1. Funny how quickly it passes without even you noticing. I'm always losing half-days and can't track them later...annoying!

  3. Hi Nila - it's stunningly thought provoking ... so do what you do - wonderful brain which occasionally needs guidance ... love it - cheers Hilary

    1. Hmmm...the idea is not to think and let it all fall into place naturally. Fingers crossed ha!

  4. I REALLY like this poem because time is always ticking in my head. It's weird because the test lab I work for is always in the future. I'm typing reports for two weeks from now, so it's like wishing my life away at times.
Whew! You nailed this time thing perfectly in this poem.
Must not overthink...or contemplate time tick tock...

    Thanks!

    1. I know I should be doing something important but can't help myself frittering away the time alloted for some grave and urgent task in some rubbish frivolous thing...and then overthinking it...tough job to keep focussed :)

  5. "Time is just a heartbeat and crumbling bread". That conjures up the perfect image of time flying by much too quickly! Ecellent poem, Nilanjana. ☺ I wish you much success with the A to Z. I retired from that rat race, but will try and read some posts. Cheers!

  6. P.S. I just noticed the Peter Sarstedt video and was compelled to play it. It's hypnotic to me. So many memories flooding back! ♥

    1. Thank you for the wishes and the visit. Peter Sarstedt had an Indian connection and has a huge Indian fan following as a result. There is a cover version with Bengali lyrics by a popular Bengali singer, but that's not a patch on the original. One of my all-time favourites!

    2. Yes, I knew about the Indian connection and also that his brother was/is a singer, too. That song has always been special to me, having been born in Europe. I was living there when it came out. It captures the flavour so well, plus, the story is hauntingly beautiful and sad. It also brings back some profound memories of my own life at the time. ♥

  7. Sometimes we think about things we plan to do, are already doing, or want to do, etc. to the point where nothing actually gets done.

    1. Exactly. Nailed it with your usual incisiveness.

Pleased to report I've done better these last couple of days, feel a little more in control, phew!
