I’m
thankful you’re not in a war zone.
That
our troubles, though quite sufficient
don’t
include that brand of violent –
they’re
lower key, more mundane in tone.
I’m
so glad you’re not in a war zone.
Though
to be honest, the ones who are
don’t
seem to be altogether foreign -
their
sorrow’s a long familiar cadence
and
half my own, the distance not too far.
We
think we are not them, but we are.

ReplyDelete...thank you... voicing what is so difficult to scream about... YAM xx
So tired of having to constantly scream ... <3
DeleteThank you. Echoing Yam (as I so often do). My heart aches for so many.
ReplyDeleteWe've reached a new low - what's going on there with the children, just dumbfounded.
DeleteThe painful truth about war, no matter what the war...
ReplyDeleteRepeatedly made clear, but we never seem to learn.
DeleteHumankind's inhumanity to other humans never ceases to horrify me.
ReplyDeleteMe too. We seem to dreaming up more and more terrible ways to be inhuman.
DeleteIndeed we are humans. Can’t turn our backs. Your poem said it all
ReplyDeleteSorry. Responding on a different source
DeleteThanks, Joanne, for taking the trouble. The public aren't indifferent but are their governments listening?
DeleteI am them.
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately. We are all them.
DeleteHi Nila - it's all too distressing - it just should not be happening ... the situation is so dangerous - I just pray it all turns out 'ok' ... but the damage has been done and will last for many decades - so many children in the the Middle East, Ukraine and war zones will not be able to cope in the future ... so desperate. I am glad I"m not there - yet we are all there in some form or other. Thank you ... Hilary
ReplyDelete'..we are all there in some form or other...' so profoundly true, Hilary!
