Come,
let’s go back to places where festivals
came
simpler – without the show and dazzle
the
autumn nights bright with a thousand stars
smoke
curling from a bushfire somewhere far
the
tunes of a cowherd yanking hearts awry
the
earth the goddess. her canopy the sky
where
the river bent to preen in its reed fringe
the
sacred hours were marked by the dove and finch
the
acacia shadows laid in filigrees
reptile
tracks echoed the signs of rice paddies
quieter
joys flared in the pulse of the firefly
the
earth the goddess her canopy the sky.
Happy Diwali and/or Happy Halloween to you, whichever you'll be marking.
Thank you for these lovely scenes.

Simpler times...
ReplyDeleteI'm with Alex. Then again, for folks back in "simpler times" they struggled too and looked back. Is it ever simpler? Or is it just who you are with at the time and your age?
ReplyDeleteLovely images and I sighed when I finished reading it the second time.
Yes, we need these simpler things to make life worth living.
ReplyDeleteHi Nila - simpler life, and more appreciation of where we're living and how we live ... so much needs to change - and it just hasn't ... people power not always helpful ... Cheers to you, yours and ours - Hilary
