Easiest to forget

Today I'd thought I’d write a poem for you –
but the sunrise seamed the sky in lilac
and birdwings, and so I could not get back -
prise myself away, think the structure through.

The road was busy, the day starts early here,
city noises are not quite as mystic -
(the birdsongs drowned by the whoosh of traffic)
as the daybreak shows the skies engineer.

A pair of doves sat on my window sill
wings growing sharper with the changing light
and I forgot the poem I’d thought I’d write;
they sat a long time, I watched longer still.

Wings in the sky and on the sill - sonnets
are some of the easiest things to forget.

    1. Distractions are better than poetry any day :)

  3. Lovely sentiment, Nila. You're in the moment. Love it. It rewards us when we lift our heads and look at nature instead of our digital devices.

    1. Digital is never even in the competition when nature is around, at least for me personally. See you shortly!

  4. I get easily distracted where I live--very urban setting. I sometimes watch the homeless people pushing carts full of their lives as I look across the street from my kitchen window. The poetry is everywhere waiting to be written, but I get lost in watching it all pass by me.

    1. It's true there is much poetry in urban settings. Watching life mindfully is imo not letting it pass you by.

  5. @ Nila - I love coming here and seeing what you've written and to what you're referring ... taking my mind to new spaces. It's better to take time out and enjoy our surroundings ... peaceful settings are more pleasurable, yet life goes on so much in the urban places - we can draw ideas from there.

Wings in the sky, wings on the sill ... they do stay still sometimes! Your Arab world brings us new thoughts - cheers Hilary
