I Is for Isaac

is for Isaac

Isaac’s obsession and the consequent loss to humanity

How far the apple falls from the tree -
a key issue, as I’m sure you’ll agree.
But Isaac? he veered off
with the direction of the drop,
obsessed with G to an absurd degree.

The result is: we can only declare
that the apple will fall, not when nor where.
It can’t be calculated
how far the fall is slated,
because Isaac Newton just did not care.

I is for Island : which is what I live on, I mean, literally.  Not that I Ingest one as food.

Island, that no man Is, John assures me.  Yeah, right. I am not so convinced. Maybe in John's time, It was so (he's is bit older than me, born 16th century). Men were mainlands then. Now vastly different story...more and more people are morphing Into Islands It seems to me.  One minute, a human, next minute s/he grabs a gizmo and wham...an Island! It is beyond Imagining.

  1. You have gone past Interesting, Indeed Intriguing is more accurate. I do think that far too many of us are Islands now. Desert Islands. And wonder whether the Incessant 'business' has a part to play...

  9. Well Issac sure made my life hell with all I had to cram at school, thankfully erased from memory now! Yes we do make instant Islands of ourselves don't we, that's progress or so we think!

  10. Lovely post (and fun to read out loud). I agree that more people are becoming islands. Isn't it ironic that social media pulls us more into ourselves and away from other people?

    1. That made me think of songs/hymns that we used to sing in school assemblies- a long time ago.. Donne's poetry is amazing! didn't know that no man is an island is also sung..

  13. Nice poem and it is good to know you are not the eater of islands, although I now need to go and find out who it is that is.

Well you seem to be doing well with this A to Z thing so well done and good luck as you head towards Z which is still a long way off somewhere beyond the letter O.

And thanks for visiting my humble little blog I am having a very quiet A to Z this year indeed. . . Maybe I should be less grumpy and stop throwing apples as folk. I certainly am not going to throw one at that Isaac Newton, that all ended in loads of equations.

    1. If there is an eater of islands, in mythology or reality, Csenge at The Multicoloured Diary will know. You should totally ask her and save yourself a pile of trouble.

Thank you for your encouragement, I try to do my best but people like Newton have done such inexplicable things that they make it difficult to write the limericks properly. Good idea not to throw any further apples, you never know what that would end up as.

I am an occasional visitor to your blog, but I have to maintain my reputation as the topmost lurker in the blogosphere so I don't always comment, except for the A-Z.

      Have a great week!

  14. Hi, Nila, so true. You walk into a room and 90% of the people in have their heads bent and a device in hand. Amazing! Love your work this A to Z, so creative, and so thoughtful!

    1. Happy Monday to you too Yolanda! and it's quite strange if you compare what happened 20 years ago when you got into a waiting room or public space and eye contact was inevitable. You had to say a hello at least. Now everyone is looking at their devices so nothing said, no communication, no connection...

    1. My island, not that it belongs to me or anything, anyways this island I am on isn't in the ocean, it's in a gulf and that makes the sea calm like lakewaters and it is the most beautiful colour imaginable, shading from aquamarine to azure to a rich emerald

  22. Good old Newton. I loved your poem. Good thing is that he didn't take part in this challenge, he might have posted only G-posts as he was "obsessed with G" ;-)
But it's a good thing that he was because otherwise mankind would still float around in space instead of having both feet on the ground. * lol *

And that is a super duper cool theme idea right there, for whoever wants to take it up next year(not me, I'd be speechless with anxiety and blogger's block) - 'A-Z challenge if Newton took it'...or Mendel, or Descartes, or whoever made your life hell in school :D Thanks!

  26. It seems a little unfair to blame Isaac Newton (who sounds like he was a really unpleasant guy, but still) for not being interested in genetics. We can't all be experts in everything, can we? I'd say that after thinking up his laws of motion, he earned the right to call it a day.
